How hard is three-pass trek?

Three-pass trek is unlimited mountain challenge for trekkers. As the trek is also called high passes trek, you will have to cross High Mountain passes over 5300m three times, hike to view point over 5300m other three times and sleep above 4500m at 8 last nights. One must have trekking experience in high altitude (above 4500m) and strong stamina to walk 6hrs a day in mountain trail. Besides your physical strength and good health, a self motivated personally is also required to complete this trek successfully.

 

Is it better to do three passes trek clockwise or anticlockwise?

Doing this trek anticlockwise is so far the most practiced route according to the acclimatize level and comfortable route to the passes. Starting from Kongma La and ending at Renjo La will gradually takes you along Everest Base Camp. Kalapatthar, Chola pass, Gokyo lakes, Gokyo Ri and Renjo La pass respectively. As for acclimatization taking an extra day in Dingboche (4410m) and heading to Kongma La (5480m) via Chhakung (4600m) is perfectly planned for high altitude walk. If you start the three passes from Renjo La the other way, you would have acclimatization at 3700m in Lumde and cross the 5360m high pass with a lot of ascend, which is much harder than the anticlockwise route.
