Your choice for this trek is definitely a key to your own self in the next dimension who enjoy “not so nerve-racking” adventure. With the sublime viewpoint of Mt. Even though Mardi Himal Trek isn’t as famous as Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek, Annapurna Circuit Trek and Everest Base Camp (EBC) Trek we assure you that this Mardi Himal Trek is a unique and riveting experience as aforementioned ones.

Comparatively shorter in duration than other three, Short Mardi Himal Trek is sure to provide you with accolades of diverse culture, tradition and geography. It is an excellent choice for beginner trekkers. Nestled within the sacred and pristine Annapurna Himalayan range, the Mardi Himal trek takes you through the enchanting landscapes of the Annapurna Conservation Area in the western Himalayan region of Nepal. Along this path, you'll experience a blend of vibrant city life in Kathmandu, the lively atmosphere of Pokhara, cultural gems like Ghalel Gaun, and tranquil spots such as Deurali and Forest Camp.

Why choose the Short Mardi Himal trek over other treks in the Annapurna region?

The Mardi Himal Trek is a less crowded and exhilarating alternative to the popular treks in the Annapurna region. It takes you to breathtaking viewpoints of the lesser-known sides of the majestic Annapurna Massif and leads you to the Mardi Himal Base Camp, situated at 4,500 meters (17,763 ft), in a shorter duration.

In addition to its scenic beauty and thrilling trails, the Mardi Himal Trek offers an off-the-beaten-path experience, panoramic vistas, cultural encounters, and diverse terrains. It can also be extended to explore other captivating areas in the Annapurna region, making it an enticing choice for a unique and unforgettable adventure.

Where is Mardi Himal Located?

Nestled amidst the sacred and unspoiled paradise of the Annapurna Himalayan range lies Mardi Himal a magnificent peak standing tall at 5,587 meters (18,330 ft). Situated in the western Himalayan region of Nepal, this awe-inspiring mountain resides within the Annapurna Conservation Area. The common route to Mardi Himal trek is conveniently located near the main trail leading to Annapurna Base Camp.

The Mardi Himal trek begins at Kande and takes you through picturesque places like Australian Camp, Pothana, Pitan Deurali, forest Camp, Low Camp, and High Camp. From there, you'll hike to Mardi Himal Base Camp before descending to Badal Danda. Finally, you'll pass through the siding village and return to Pokhara. If you prefer to avoid the same route from Low Camp, ending the trek in Siding Village is the perfect choice.

What is the best time for Mardi Himal trek?

The Mardi Himal trek can be enjoyed in four distinct seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. While it's possible to trek in the Annapurna Region throughout the year, it requires greater preparation during summer and winter, and visibility may be reduced due to fog. The optimal times for the Mardi Himal Trek are autumn (September-November) and spring (March-May), similar to other treks in Nepal. These seasons offer clear weather and warm day temperatures. However, it's important to note that the Khumbu region can be particularly cold.

Let's explore the best time to embark on a Mardi Himal Trek:

Autumn | September-November:

Autumn is characterized by warm days, clear blue skies, ample sunlight, and excellent visibility, making it ideal for outdoor activities. Daytime temperatures in higher hill areas range from 15 to 22 degrees Celsius, creating a stable and calm environment. While September can have some rainfall, it diminishes from mid-September, and the serene weather continues until late November.

Spring | March-May:

Spring, known as Basanta Ritu in Nepali, is the best time for trekking and hiking in the Annapurna Region. The temperature and weather remain stable, with upper hill areas experiencing temperatures around 16 to 23 degrees Celsius. The abundance of blooming Rhododendron flowers, clear skies, sunlight, and green landscapes attract numerous trekkers, making it a busy period on the trails. April is particularly favored for the Mardi Himal Trek due to clear weather and sunny days.

Summer | June-August:

Summer is characterized by rainfall and cloudy weather in Nepal. It's the hottest and wettest time of the year. While the mountains are often covered by clouds, they open up beautifully after rainfall. The trekking trails are less crowded during summer, but they can be slippery, muddy, and wet due to regular rainfall. Leeches may be active, and there's a higher possibility of landslides, making trekking more challenging. However, this season also sees plenty of trekkers exploring the Mardi Himal Trek, accepting the added challenges with greater preparation, such as packing heavier clothing for the rainy season.

Winter | December-February:

Winter brings the coldest time of the year, with stunning views after snowfall blankets the mountains in white. The daytime temperatures range from 5 to 12 degrees Celsius, and higher altitude areas like Everest Base Camp experience freezing temperatures. Lower altitude hikes or treks can be done with less preparation, as they are less affected by snowfall. However, venturing to higher regions may involve immense snowfall, increasing the trek's challenge and requiring greater preparation, including additional days and appropriate clothing. Despite the decrease in trekkers during this season, the unique and fresh views of snow-covered mountains make it a worthwhile experience.

Remember, after the most challenging climb, you'll be rewarded with the best and most captivating views. During winter, expect snow-loaded mountains that appear freshly adorned, creating a sense of freshness and beauty.

Is Hiring a Guide Necessary for Trekking in Nepal?

As per the recent policy update by the Nepal government's Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation in 2023, it is now mandatory for all trekkers in Nepal to hire a guide. This requirement aims to ensure safety and create job opportunities. Considering the remote wilderness and high elevations you'll encounter during your trek, it is strongly advised against going alone. Communication can be a challenge, as locals in mountainous regions may not speak English or other foreign languages. To navigate potential problems effectively and ensure a smooth journey, it is highly recommended to travel with a professional guide who will provide guidance and support throughout your trekking experience in Nepal.
